The Buffalo Bills will interview Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers on Friday for their head coach opening.
Sources told NFL Network, ESPN and The Athletic about the interview. Rivers, 44, coached St. Michael Catholic High School in Fairhope, Ala., before ending his retirement in December to return to the NFL.
The eight-time Pro Bowl selection completed 63% of his throws for 544 yards, four scores and three interceptions over three appearances for the Colts in 2025-26.
Rivers, who initially retired after the 2020 season, spent five seasons as a high school coach. The 2013 Comeback Player of the Year started all 16 games every year from 2006 through 2020, including 16 seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Rivers’ 425 career touchdown passes rank No. 6 in NFL history. His 63,984 yards are No. 8 in NFL history.
The Bills, who fired former coach Sean McDermott on Monday, completed interviews with Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, ex-New York Giants coach Brian Daboll and their offensive coordinator, Joe Brady, for their head coach vacancy.
They also scheduled interviews with former Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel, Washington Commanders run game coordinator Anthony Lynn, Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski and Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.
McDermott led the Bills to a 98-50 regular-season record and 8-8 postseason mark from 2017 to 2025.
