The Bureau of Labor Statistics will postpone the release of its monthly jobs report this week because of the partial government shutdown, the department said.
“The Employment Situation release for January 2026 will not be released as scheduled on Friday, Feb. 6, 2026. The release will be rescheduled upon the resumption of government funding,” Emily Liddel, associate commissioner of the BLS, said in a statement.
The report was expected to show an increase of 55,000 jobs and the unemployment rate to hold steady at 4.4%, even as UPS and Amazon have announced job cuts in recent weeks.
The agency also was expected to release the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey on Tuesday.
Last fall, when the federal government was shut down for more than a month, the BLS paused all of its reports and delayed them until after the government reopened.
The federal government is in a partial shutdown as Congress decides on funding for the Department of Homeland Security, which Democrats have worked to halt if the agency does not make reforms they have demanded amid the Trump administration’s nationwide immigration crackdown.
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-La., said the issue should be resolved by Tuesday.
