Customs and Border Protection agents have seized a load of methamphetamine at the Roma, Texas, crossing valued at more than $13 million, the agency announced Thursday.
The drugs were hidden in a shipment of carbonated soft drinks being smuggled into the United States via a tractor trailer on Monday, the CBP announced in a statement.
Agents selected the vehicle for inspection at the border crossing, where canines and other tools were used to examine the truck.
“Physical examination led to the discovery of illegal methamphetamines within the beverage shipment with combined weight of 1,473.65 pounds,” the CBP release said.
CBP officers seized the drugs and vehicle. The Department of Homeland Security launched a criminal investigation.
