The Cleveland Browns agreed to a trade for the Houston Texans’ Tytus Howard and plan to sign the offensive tackle to a three-year, $63 million contract extension, sources told UPI on Monday.
The Texans, in exchange, ate to receive a fifth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Howard, the No. 23 overall pick by the Texans in the 2019 NFL Draft, started 16 games each of the last two seasons. He made 93 starts, including appearances at guard and at both tackle spots, over his first seven seasons in the NFL.
Pro Football Focus gave Howard the 27th-best offensive rating among tackles who were in for at least 80% of the maximum snaps played at the position last season. He received the eighth-best rating as a pass blocker and ranked 33rd as a run blocker.
Howard rated No. 17 among tackles in 2025. He ranked 14th as a pass blocker and 24th as a run blocker that season.
The 6-foot-5, 322-pound offensive lineman signed a three-year, $56 million extension in 2023. Howard later agreed to restructure that deal, which was to expire next off-season. He is now under contract through 2029.
