The Los Angeles Chargers are expected to hire former Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel as their offensive coordinator.

Sources told NFL Network, ESPN and The Athletic about the move Tuesday night. McDaniel is in line to replace former Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman, who was fired Jan. 13.

The Chargers totaled the 12th most points and 20th most yards in 2025-26. They had the No. 18 passing offense and No. 12 passing offense. They ranked 20th in yards and 11th in points in 2024-25.

The Dolphins, who boasted the league’s top offense under McDaniel in 2023, ranked 18th in 2024 and 26th in 2025. They had a Top-5 passing offense in two of McDaniel’s four seasons.

The Dolphins, who fired McDaniel on Jan. 8, hired former Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley as their new coach Monday.

McDaniel was a candidate for the Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens, Las Vegas Raiders, Atlanta Falcons and Tennessee Titans head coaching vacancies. He interviewed with the Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers for their offensive coordinator openings.

The Chargers previously interviewed Drew Terrell, Arthur Smith, Brian Callahan, Shane Day and Marcus Brady for offensive coordinator.
