The Chicago Bears signed backup quarterback Tyson Bagent to a two-year, $10 million contract extension, his agency, Milk & Honey Sports, confirmed Wednesday.

The pact is worth up to $16 million with incentives. Bagent, the primary backup to starter Caleb Williams, is now under contract with the Bears through 2027. Bears coach Ben Johnson, who also confirmed the signing, told reporters Wednesday that he believes Bagent has starting-caliber-level talent.

“I don’t think there is any question about it,” Johnson said. “I’ve really been blown away by his approach from the spring to the start of camp to where we are now. He does a tremendous job knowing what to do, how to do it and getting it done. I don’t think you can have enough talent in that room.

“I think we actually have one of the best [quarterback] rooms in the NFL, certainly that I’ve been around in my career. From top to bottom, we’ve got three or four guys that can play in this league. I feel really strongly about where we are at right there.”

Bagent, 25, completed 2 of 2 passes for 11 yards over four appearances last season for the Bears. He completed 94 of 143 (65.7%) throws for 859 yards, three scores and six interceptions over five appearances in 2023.

Case Keenum and Austin Reed are the other quarterbacks on the Bears depth chart.

The Bears will take on the Kansas City Chiefs in their preseason finale at 8:20 p.m. EDT Friday in Kansas City, Mo. The Bears will host the Minnesota Vikings in their regular-season opener Sept. 8 in Chicago.
