Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels did not sustain any elbow ligament damage and will not need surgery, a league source told UPI on Friday.
Daniels also avoided an immediate placement on injured reserve, which would trigger an automatic absence of at least four games. Second-string quarterback Marcus Mariota is set to start in place of Daniels in Week 10.
Daniels dislocated his left elbow in the fourth quarter of a 38-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday in Landover, Md. The Commanders quarterback exited the game midway through the quarter.
Daniels, the 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year, completed 62.5% of his throws for 1,184 yards, eight scores and two interceptions through his first six starts of the 2025 season. He also ran for 262 yards and two scores.
Mariota, who did not throw a pass in Week 9, completed 63.6% of his throws for 639 yards, four scores and four interceptions through five appearances this season. He also ran for 122 yards and a score.
Mariota drew three starts earlier this season when Daniels missed time due to hamstring and knee injuries.
The Commanders (3-6) will host the Detroit Lions (5-3) at 4:25 p.m. EST Sunday in Landover. They will take on the Miami Dolphins in Week 11 before a Week 12 bye.
