Injured Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels will not play in Week 8 against the Kansas City Chiefs, a league source told UPI on Wednesday.

Daniels sustained a hamstring strain in a 44-22 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday in Arlington, Texas. Marcus Mariota is expected to start Monday in Kansas City, Mo. Josh Johnson is the only other quarterback on the Commanders’ roster.

Mariota completed 4 of 10 passes for 63 yards and an interception in relief of Daniels. He completed 60.3% of his throws for 426 yards, three scores and two interceptions through three appearances this season.

Daniels, the 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year, completed 61% of his throws for 1,031 yards, eight scores and one interception through five starts this season. He also ran for 211 yards and a score.

The Commanders (3-4) and Chiefs (4-3) will face off at 8:15 p.m. EDT Monday at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
