The Disney Treasure is the sixth vessel in the Disney Cruise Line fleet and is scheduled to make its maiden voyage on Dec. 21. It has 1,256 staterooms.

The cruise ship was built in Papenburg, Germany, and departed the shipyard in September for its shakedown run.

The initial test cruise included a stop in Eemshaven, Netherlands, where Disney accepted ownership and control of the vessel at the end of October.

While the Disney Treasure has yet to sail on its maiden voyage, it already has made a very positive impact on four people’s lives.

Crew members rescued four people from a boat that was stranded off the coast of Bermuda on Nov. 10.

The vessel’s crew responded to a vessel-in-distress call late in the morning and rescued four passengers from the vessel at 1 p.m. local time before continuing to Port Canaveral.

While at Port Canaveral in Florida, the vessel stayed for a time before departing for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, where the cruise ship is moored and awaiting its christening. Advertisement

During its stay in Port Canaveral, Disney Cruise Line invited government and port officials to tour the new ship for a ceremonial plaque and key exchange.

Coinciding with the Disney Treasure’s pending christening, Disney Cruise Line has launched a “Treasure Tomorrow” program that is designed to create “lasting, positive impacts in the port communities it calls home” in Florida and throughout the Caribbean Sea.

During the vessel’s first year, Disney Cruise Line will fund and support community-building efforts by providing students with career exploration programs in every port of call that it visits.

Disney Cruise Line also is partnering with the Brevard Schools Foundation in Florida to enable students to tour the Disney Treasure, meet Disney cast and crew members and learn about careers at sea.

Students also can participate in career-exploration programs for those who might be interested in the maritime, tourism, hospitality and entertainment industries.
