Dolphins to hire Packers exec Jon-Eric Sullivan as general manager

The Miami Dolphins will hire Green Bay Packers vice president of player personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan as their new general manager.
Sources told NFL Network, The Athletic and ESPN about the hiring Friday. Sullivan will replace Chris Grier, who parted ways with the Dolphins in October. Grier held the role for 10 years.
Sullivan will now be part of a brain trust tasked with hiring the Dolphins’ next coach to replace Mike McDaniel, who was fired Thursday.
Sullivan, 48, joined the Packers in 2003 as an intern. He worked his way up as a scout and within the Packers’ player personnel department before being promoted to vice president of player personnel in 2022.
The Packers made the playoffs 19 times over the last 25 seasons, including 17 times during Sullivan’s tenure with the NFC North franchise. They won 15 playoff games since 2001. The Dolphins are 0-5 in playoff games since 2001.
Sullivan interviewed last year with the New York Jets, Las Vegas Raiders and Tennessee Titans. Interim general manager Champ Kelly, Los Angeles Chargers assistant general manager Chad Alexander and San Francisco 49ers director of scouting and football operations Josh Williams were among the other finalists for the Dolphins’ GM vacancy.
In addition to finding a replacement for McDaniel, Sullivan also will need to navigate through off-season turbulence, with the Dolphins potentially moving on from benched quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and hefty contracts of aging stars, including Tyreek Hill.
Former Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh, ex Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski, Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores, Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Lynn, Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak and Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph are expected to be among the top candidates available during the head coach hiring cycle.
The Dolphins (7-10) have the No. 11 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
