Police arrested the person who allegedly provided a gun to the Virginia man who shot three people on the campus of Old Dominion University.

Kenya Chapman was charged on Friday with selling a stolen .22-caliber gun to Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, 36, who opened fire on the university campus the day before, killing one and injuring two others before being shot by a student, Fox News reported.

Jalloh, who spent 7 years in prison after he was convicted for providing ISIS material support, was recently released and was not legally permitted to possess a firearm.

Based on Jalloh’s personal and legal history, as well as that he screamed “Allahu Akbar” before opening fire in a classroom, the shooting is being investigated by the FBI as terrorism, The New York Times reported.

“Our Joint Terrorism Task Force is fully engaged, embedded with local authorities and providing all resources necessary in the investigation,” FBI Director Kash Patel said Thursday after the shooting, WAVY-10 reported.

Around 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jalloh entered an Old Dominion classroom, yelled the Arabic phrase and started shooting. The classroom, however, was being used by members of the ROTC, who subdued the shooter and left him “rendered no longer alive,” according to the FBI.

Three people were shot in the attack and one, ROTC instructor Lt. Col. Brandon Shah, died of his injuries at the hospital. One hospitalized person was upgraded to fair early Friday, while another remains in stable condition, according to hospital officials.

Shah was a professor and combat veteran who earned two Bronze Stars and two Meritorious Service Medals for his service in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Jalloh had previously pleaded guilty in 2016 to providing support to ISIS and was sentenced in 2017 to 11 years in prison and five years of supervised release. He was released early from prison in 2024.

Chapman, who had previously been investigated for alleged straw purchases of firearms, had stolen the .22-caliber gun about a year ago and sold it to Jalloh earlier this week for $100, the FBI said.
