Rep. Clay Higgins is accused of calling Haitian immigrants “thugs” and saying they need to leave the United States in a since-deleted post on X.

Higgins, R-La., deleted the post hours after posting it Wednesday and initially made the post in reference to the nonprofit Haitian Bridge Alliance filing criminal complaints Tuesday against former President Donald Trump and running mate Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, for claiming Haitian refugees are eating cats and dogs. Advertisement

Higgins said, “These Haitians are wild” and called Haiti the “nastiest county in the Western Hemisphere” after the complaints were filed against Trump and Vance.

“All these thugs better get their mind right and their ass out of our country before January 20th,” he concluded in the deleted post from his congressional account on X.

The chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, Rep. Steven Horsford, D-Nev., accused Higgins of using intimidating words about Haitian immigrants in violation of congressional rules.

“We have a member who is choosing to use an official platform” to post hateful rhetoric, Horsford said on the House Floor Wednesday.

Clay removed the post after several House members, including Congressional Black Caucus member Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., said he should delete it. Advertisement
