Authorities in Hawaii have charged a 36-year-old with murder after three seniors were killed on the Big Island.

Jacob Daniel Baker of Pahoa has been charged with four counts of murder, one count in the first degree and three in the second, the Hawaii Police Department said in a statement Saturday.

Authorities said the second-degree charges are related to the three homicide victims while the first-degree charge is for “intentionally or knowingly killing two or more people.”

He faces additional related charges of first-degree burglary as well as several auto theft- and property damage-related charges.

Baker is being held without bail and is scheduled to make his initial court appearance Monday afternoon.

Police arrested Baker on Thursday afternoon following a manhunt.

Authorities allege he killed three seniors in Pahoa.

Two of his victims have been identified as 69-year-old Robert Shine and 69-year-old John Carse. The third victim has only be identified as a 79-year-old man.

The case began Monday night when officers responding to a report of an unknown disturbance found Shine dead at a Papaya Farms Road residence.

After noon on Tuesday, the unidentified man was found dead at a second Papaya Farms Road residence, located between 400 and 500 feet from the initial crime scene.

Carse’s body was found Tuesday night.

Autopsies performed on the two identified victims showed that Shine died as a result of strangulation and that Carse died from sharp force trauma. Police said the third victim had incurred “suspicious injuries.”

No motive has been made public.
