The Jacksonville Jaguars agreed to trade Tyson Campbell to the Cleveland Browns for Greg Newsome II in a cornerback swap, a league source told UPI on Thursday.
The Jaguars also agreed to send a seventh-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft to the Browns in exchange for Newsome and a sixth-round pick. Newsome joined the Browns as the No. 26 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Campbell, a second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, appeared in 60 games through his first five seasons. The 25-year-old defensive back logged 34 combined tackles, six passes defensed, a forced fumble and a tackle for a loss through five starts this season.
Pro Football Focus gave Campbell the No. 47 defensive rating among cornerbacks who were in for at least 50% of the maximum snaps played at the position so far in 2025. He ranked 57th in coverage, but received the No. 5 tackle rating and ranked No. 3 in run defense among cornerbacks.
Campbell earned the No. 5 defensive and coverage ratings in 2022. The Jaguars signed Campbell to a four-year, $76.5 million contract extension in 2024.
Newsome, 25, appeared in 59 games through his first five seasons. He totaled 23 combined tackles, three passes defensed and two tackles for a loss through five starts this season.
Newsome received the No, 27 defensive rating among cornerbacks from Pro Football Focus. He ranked No. 32 in coverage, No. 25 in run defense and received the No. 26 tackle rating.
The Browns exercised the $13.3 million fifth-year option on Newsome’s rookie contract in 2024. He is set to hit free agency this off-season.
Jourdan Lewis, Travis Hunter, Jarrian Jones, Montaric Brown and Christian Braswell are among the other cornerbacks on the Jaguars roster. Campbell will join a Browns cornerbacks room that also features Denzel Ward, Myles Harden and Jarrick Bernard-Converse.
The Browns (1-4) will face the Pittsburgh Steelers (3-1) at 1 p.m. EDT Sunday in Pittsburgh. The Jaguars (4-1) will host the Seattle Seahawks (3-2) at the same time in Jacksonville, Fla.
