Elon Musk has donated $10 million to a candidate in the Senate race in Kentucky to replace Mitch McConnell, who is retiring at the end of his current term.

The SpaceX and Tesla owner made the donation to the Fight For Kentucky super PAC to push the pro-Trump candidate Nate Morris for the U.S. Senate, Axios reported on Monday.

Morris is one of three leading candidates — which U.S. Rep. Andy Barr and former Kentucky attorney general Daniel Cameron — competing in the Republican primary for the nomination, according to the New York Times.

Musk contributed roughly $250 million to President Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign and ran the administration’s Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, effort to reduce the size of the federal government.

But the two had a bitter falling out in June, which included Musk taking shots at Trump in posts on X and Trump threatening to cancel government contracts with Musk’s companies.

Since a public reconciliation in September at conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s memorial service, they once again are lining up on the same political page as the country heads into the mid-term elections this November.

Morris, who is friends with Vice President JD Vance, founded Rubicon Technologies, a publicly traded waste and recycling company, until 2023 when he stepped down, the Louisville Courier Journal reported.

Morris has been described by some as a political outsider and suggested that Barr and Cameron as likely to be similar to McConnell, who has been in the Senate since 1985.

Morris told Fox News that he has thus far financed most of his campaign himself, although he said he has received small-dollar donations from people nationwide who do not want to see a McConnell-type elected to the seat.

“Elon picks winners,” Morris said of the donation to his super PAC, which “certainly gives us the firepower and the ammo to go the distance, to be able to out our message.”
