Cleveland Browns legend Bernie Kosar, who underwent a liver transplant Nov. 17, was to l be discharged Monday from a Cleveland hospital, he announced.
“My liver transplant went so well that the doctors just told me I’m being discharged this afternoon instead of next month,” Kosar wrote on X.
“Grateful doesn’t begin to describe it. And yes — I’ll be home in time to watch Monday Night Football.” Kosar, 61, underwent surgery at University Hospitals in Cleveland.
“A huge shoutout to Michael Crowley and the incredible program that saved my life,” Kosar wrote. “I can’t thank them enough.”
Kosar, who spent nine of his 12 NFL seasons with the Browns, announced last year that he was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver and Parkinson’s disease.
He had been hospitalized with internal bleeding and underwent several surgical procedures as he awaited a liver to become available.
