Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young sustained a high ankle sprain in a Week 7 win over the New York Jets, which is expected to result in a Week 8 absence.

Sources told NFL Network, ESPN and The Athletic on Monday that an MRI revealed Young’s high ankle sprain, and he is expected to be out for at last one week.

Young hurt the right ankle in the third quarter of the 13-6 win Sunday in East Rutherford, N.J. He did not return.

Panthers second-string quarterback Andy Dalton is now in line to start amid Young’s absence. Dalton completed 4 of 7 passes for 60 yards in relief of Young against the Jets. Quarterback Hendon Hooker is on the Panthers’ practice squad.

Young completed a career-high 61.6% of his throws for 1,288 yards, 11 scores and five interceptions through his first seven starts this season. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft sprained the same ankle during the 2023 season, resulting in a one-game absence.

The Panthers (4-3) will host the Buffalo Bills (4-2) at 1 p.m. EDT Sunday in Charlotte, N.C.
