Elite college prospects aren’t the only ones preparing for the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh. So are the city’s thousands of teachers and students, who will transition to remote learning during the event.

Pittsburgh Public Schools announced Friday that staffs and families were notified that schools will utilize asynchronous teaching and learning from April 22 to 24, the dates that the draft will be held.

“Our priority is maintaining continuity of learning while recognizing the extraordinary circumstances the city will experience during the NFL Draft,” superintendent Dr. Wayne N. Walters said in a news release.

“Transitioning to asynchronous learning allows us to support students academically while helping families navigate the logistical challenges expected across the region.”

Pittsburgh officials, who expect up to 700,000 visitors for the 2026 NFL Draft, said they expect the move to help reduce transportation challenges.

NFL Draft festivities will be held outside Acrisure Stadium and across the Allegheny River.
