Police arrested Nick Reiner for the stabbing deaths of his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and producer Michele Reiner, online records from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department indicated.
Law enforcement arrested Nick Reiner on Sunday, hours after an ambulance was called to his parents’ house in Brentwood. Both Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner were found dead from multiple stab wounds.
The LASD listed only Nick Reiner’s charge level — a felony — and not the specific charge. It said he was being held on $4 million bail.
Two unnamed law enforcement sources confirmed to NBC News that Nick Reiner was being held in connection to the deaths. Multiple unnamed sources who spoke to surviving family members told People magazine that Nick Reiner killed his parents.
The Los Angeles Fire Department was called to the Reiner home around 3:30 p.m. PST Sunday after a family member discovered the bodies.
Rob Reiner, who died at age 78, directed This is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride, Stand by Me, Misery, A Few Good Men and Sleepless in Seattle. He met his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, while working on his film When Harry Met Sally in 1989.
The two married and had three children together — actor Jake Reiner in 1991, Nick Reiner in 1993 and Romy Reiner in 1997. Rob Reiner also had an adopted daughter from his marriage to the late filmmaker Penny Marshall — actor Tracy Reiner, born in 1964.
Nick Reiner has previously been open about his struggle with drug addiction, his many stints in rehab and bouts of homelessness since the age of 15. He wrote the screenplay for 2015’s Being Charlie loosely based on his life. Rob Reiner directed the film, which stared Nick Robinson, Common and Cary Elwes.
