Roger Goodell thinks Taylor Swift would be an excellent choice for headline performer during the Super Bowl LX halftime show, the NFL commissioner said Wednesday.

Goodell made the comment on NBC’s Today show. Super Bowl LX will be held Feb. 8, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. Headline artists for big game are typically announced in late September.

The record-breaking singer-songwriter, who recently became engaged to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, is to release her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, on Oct. 3. She had never appeared on a Super Bowl halftime show.

“We would always love to have Taylor play,” Goodell said, when asked if Swift was being considered for the role. “She is a special, special talent and, obviously, she would be welcome at any time.”

Goodell said he could not say anything about it when asked if planning for the performance was “in the works.” Host Savannah Guthrie then asked if such a performance was a “maybe.”

“It’s a maybe,” Goodell replied.

Goodell, who called himself a “Swiftie,” said that he needed to wait on Jay-Z and for the “smoke to come out” regarding a possible performance. Jay-Z’s Roc Nation oversees the Super Bowl halftime show selection process.

The NFL commissioner also spoke about the 2025 season launch, rule changes, technological applications, concussions and player safety.

The 2025 season will begin when the Philadelphia Eagles host the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night in Philadelphia. The NFC East divisional matchup will air at 8:20 p.m. EDT on NBC.

Kelce and the Chiefs will play the Los Angeles Chargers at 8 p.m. Friday in Sao Paulo. That AFC West meeting will air on YouTube.
