U.S. marshal fatally shot serving arrest warrant in Louisiana


A U.S. marshal was shot and killed while serving an arrest warrant on a fugitive in central Louisiana, federal authorities said.
Little information about the Monday incident has been made public.
The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed in a statement that one of its deputies was killed while serving an arrest warrant for a fugitive in Alexandria, La., a city of around 45,275 people about 90 miles north of Lafayette.
Neither the suspect nor the dead deputy was identified.

According to a statement from the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, detectives, along with members of the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force, were executing a fugitive arrest warrant at about 3 p.m. CDT in the area of Rutland Road when “an officer-involved shooting occurred.”
The suspect was apprehended following what it called a “lengthy standoff” and taken to the hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries, seemingly incurred during the shooting.
The RPSO, FBI and Louisiana State Police were investigating.
“The Louisiana State Police sends our deepest condolences to the United States Marshals Service and the family, friends and colleagues of the deputy U.S. Marshal who was killed in the line of duty today in Alexandria,” the Louisiana State Police said in a statement.
“We honor their dedication and sacrifice and stand with our federal partners during this difficult time.”
