The New York Jets will bench Justin Fields and start quarterback Tyrod Taylor in Week 12 against the Baltimore Ravens, a league source told UPI on Monday.
Fields completed 15 of 26 passes for 116 yards and a score in the Jets’ 27-14 loss to the New England Patriots on Thursday in Foxborough, Mass. He also ran for 67 yards and a score and lost a fumble.
Jets coach Aaron Glenn told reporters he was “evaluating everything,” when asked Friday if he was considering a quarterback change. Fields completed 62.7% of his throws for 1,259 yards, seven scores and one interception through nine starts this season. He also ran for 383 yards and four scores on 71 carries.
Taylor completed 62.3% of his throws for 379 yards, three scores and three interceptions through three appearances this season. He ran for 80 yards on 14 carries.
The Jets (2-8), who totaled the fewest passing yards in the NFL so far this season, will face the Ravens (5-5) at 1 p.m. EST Sunday in Baltimore. The Ravens allowed the ninth-most passing yards in the NFL through 11 weeks.
“I want to make a decision to give us a chance to win,” Glenn said Friday. “Whatever that evaluation process comes out to, just know that the reason why I make decision that I make is because it gives us the best chance to win.”
