The Pittsburgh Steelers moved quarterback Will Howard to their active roster before playing the Cincinnati Bengals, they announced Wednesday.

Howard, a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, is expected to slot in behind starter Aaron Rodgers and backup quarterback Mason Rudolph on the Steelers’ depth chart.

The former Ohio State quarterback sustained a hand injury during training camp and landed on injured reserve in August. He returned to practice Oct. 22, starting a 21-day window for the Steelers to either active Howard or leave him on injured reserve for the remainder of the season.

Rodgers completed 66.8% of his passes for 1,853 yards, 18 scores and seven interceptions through nine starts this season. Rudolph completed 2 of 2 passes for 12 yards in two appearances in 2025.

The Steelers signed cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. to their practice squad and waived running back Trey Sermon from their 53-man roster. They also released defensive back Darrick Forest from their practice squad.

The Steelers (5-4) will host the Bengals (3-6) at 1 p.m. EST Sunday in Pittsburgh.
