Labor Day’s Powerball jackpot soared to the fifth-largest prize ever, with an estimated $1.1 billion up for grabs as the winning numbers were announced.

The numbers from Monday night’s drawing were 8, 23, 25, 40 and 53. The Powerball was 5 and the Power Play multiplier was 3x. No word yet if there were any winners.

On Saturday, nine tickets matched the five white balls to win $1 million prizes, but no one matched all five winning numbers — 22-3-33-18-27 — and the red Powerball 17.

“We’re seeing some crazy numbers now in Powerball, a billion-dollar jackpot and still no winners! Just how high is it going to roll?” Powerball USA queried Monday in a post on X.

Labor Day’s Powerball jackpot of $1.1 billion is the fifth largest ever recorded in the game’s history since it began in 1992. The largest on record was $2.04 billion, won in California on Nov. 7, 2022.

“America has waited all year for the chance to play for a billion-dollar jackpot,” said Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group Chair and Iowa Lottery chief executive officer, “and what better time than Labor Day for a $1.1 billion Powerball drawing!”

According to the Multi-State Lottery Association, the odds of winning Monday’s jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million. The last time someone won a Powerball drawing was on May 31, in California.

If a player matches all six numbers Monday night, they will be allowed to choose between a $1.1 billion annuity over 30 years or a one-time payment of $498.4 million.

Powerball tickets cost $2 and are sold in 45 states, in addition to Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
