The San Francisco 49ers will place tight end George Kittle on injured reserve due to his hamstring injury, prompting a mandatory absence of at least four games.

Sources told NFL Network, ESPN and The Athletic about the move on Tuesday. Kittle totaled four catches for 25 yards and a score before leaving in the second quarter of the 49ers’ 17-13 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday in Seattle.

He is now eligible to return from injured reserve for an Oct. 12 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He will miss games against the New Orleans Saints, Arizona Cardinals, Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Rams.

Luke Farrell and Jake Tonges are the only other tight ends on the 49ers’ roster. Tonges hauled in a 4-yard, go-ahead touchdown catch late in the fourth quarter of the 49ers’ Week 1 victory. He totaled three catches for 15 yards in the win. Farrell caught one pass for 4 yards.

The 49ers (1-0) will face the Saints (0-1) at 1 p.m. EDT Sunday in New Orleans.
