Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has been discharged from the hospital after being admitted with flu-like symptoms early last week, his spokesman announced Wednesday.
McConnell, 83, was discharged on Tuesday. He will work from home this week on the advice of his doctors, his spokesman, David Popp, said.
McConnell missed two votes in the U.S. Senate during his absence.
“Senator McConnell was discharged from the hospital yesterday and is grateful for the outstanding care he received,” Popp said.
The longtime senator was hospitalized on the night of Feb. 2, and was experiencing flu-like symptoms in the days prior. He checked himself into the hospital out of “an abundance of caution.”
In recent years, McConnell has experienced several health incidents, including falling down and sustaining a concussion, fracturing his shoulder and appearing to freeze during speeches on Capitol Hill. He has at times used a wheelchair to traverse the U.S. Capitol building.
Senate Republican leader John Thune, R-S.D., said on Monday that McConnell has remained in contact on Senate business while hospitalized.
After more than 40 years serving in the Senate, McConnell has announced that he will not run for re-election, ending his tenure later this year.
