Four people, including the gunman, died in two connected shootings about 6 miles apart in the Houston area on Wednesday, police said.

A Houston police official told reporters that the unidentified man and his vehicle, a silver Ford Escaper, are linked to both shootings. He was found dead by a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside his SUV.

The first shooting was reported in Sugar Land, a city southwest of Houston, around 12:30 p.m. CDT. A woman was found with several gunshot wounds in the driver’s seat of a white SUV that went off the road, according to the police. She was pronounced dead at a hospital. Investigators determined the gunman was in a relationship with the victim after initially suspecting road rage, police said.

About one hour later, farther southeast in southwest Houston, a mechanic at Maac was shot after an altercation, Houston Police Lt. Larry Crowson said at a news conference.

“We just know that the guy involved in the shooting there in Sugar Land drove to this location, went to the mechanic shop,” Crowson said.

The gunman, while leaving, opened fire when someone from a nearby warehouse began recording by cellphone, killing the witness, he said.

A third man at the scene was taken to the hospital after suffering a panic attack, police said.

They found the suspected gunman dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
